Vermont Academy Class of 2012 House
Vermont Academy successfully initiated a Senior Parent giving program in 2011 which resulted in the renovation of the auditorium space in Fuller Hall into The 2011 Great Room. The Senior Parent giving program provides a wonderful opportunity to quickly and appropriately address critical needs on campus, as well as honor and recognize members of the graduating class and their families. The Class of 2012 project will be your children’s legacy to Vermont Academy.
This year, we have elected to focus our efforts on increasing faculty housing on the Vermont Academy campus. This will enhance the school’s ability to maintain a strong and vibrant faculty as well as make some critical improvements to campus.
As Vermont Academy continues to make progress toward our strategic goal of 250-275 students, the need for on-campus housing for teaching faculty will become increasingly important. As the core of our educational community, faculty serve as important mentors to our students. Having faculty, of all experience levels, on campus and accessible is vitally important to the success of our overall educational program.
There are two options under consideration to meet the ongoing need of providing modern, desirable and appropriate housing options for our faculty. As an added benefit to the school, all of these options will also provide budget relief by reducing the number of apartments we need to rent in the local community. Here are the options:
Option A: Construct a new house.
This would a 3 bedroom house of about 1,800 sq. ft. and could accommodate a family. Location to be determined. Preliminary solutions are being developed by Jim Frey’s Advanced Physics Architecture Class.
Option B: Renovate or replace Stearns House, the building at the foot of the schools principle entryway, to convert the existing space into 2 modern apartments.
We are in the process of obtaining rough estimates for both options. The Vermont Academy Board of Trustees will have final say as to which option ultimately is in the best interests of the Academy.
It is our hope that we can complete the work in time for the opening of school in September 2012, and that all Class of 2012 families will participate in this project. We will celebrate our success as part of Graduation Weekend.
