The Vermont Academy Cross Country team spent the final weekend of the season in rural western Connecticut at the NEPSAC XC Championships. The team left Saxtons River after classes on Friday and enjoyed a team meal at an Italian Restaurant in Kent, CT, After dinner the team spent the night at the home of Andrew Ziegler, the team Captain. The weater was perfect on Saturday and the team ran well. Fresman John Scoby led the team as he has all year long. John has a bright future and although his last race wasn't his strongest he has learned so much this season. Senior Scott Poulton capped off a remarkable season by finishing under 20 minutes. Scott battled painful shin splints all season, but was able to run his best race at the Championships. Freshman Cam Hubbard had a solid race and finished third for the team. He was closely followed by Senior Jack Mackey, Andrew Ziegler and Will Datilio. Junior Bobby Ronacher rounded out the top 7. Freshman Desmond Holzman-Hansen and Captain Robert Parent ran well in the JV race. The team will gather together one last time at the Fall Sports Banquet on Tuesday.

Lakes Region Championship Meet

The Vermont Academy Wildcats finished their regular season with a good showing at the Lakes Region Championships at Holderness School. The team was led by Freshman John Scoby who continues to improve each race. Scoby finished third in a field of 125. Senior Scott Poulton finished a strong second. He has been a steady performer this season. Senior Austin Wharry had his best race of the season and finished 3rd for the team. Freshman Cam Hubbard was the #4 finisher. Cam has been impressive in his rookie season. Rounding out the top seven for VA were Bobby Ronacher, Andrerw Ziegler and Freshman Desmond Hansen-Holzman. The team will travel to New Milford, CT on Friday for a pre championship team dinner. Details on the New England Champs have been posted in a previous link.

Jon Scoby continued his breakout Freshman season finishing second at the final regular season Lakes Region Meet. Scoby ran another impressive tactical race. He looked comfortable at the half way point and made a strong move at the 2 mile mark that moved him into second. Jon needed a strong finish to hold earn his best finish of the season. Scott Poulton also ran his best race of the year finishing in 16th place. Will Datilio had a strong effort and finished third for the Wildcats. Freshman Cam Hubbard was the fourth VA finisher. The following VA runners also turned in strong efforts today at Proctor Academy: Andrew Ziegler Bobby Ronacher Desmond Hansen-Holzman Steven Tabor Daquein McNeil Jack Mackey The team returns to action on Saturday at Williston Northampton.

KUA traveled to Saxtons River on Wed to take on the Wildcats in a dual meet. Under a steady rain Jon Scoby took an early lead. He passed the one mile mark with an impressive split of 5.55. Scoby opened up a big lead in the second mile and won the rece with a time of 19.59. Scott Poulton ran well and finished second for VA. Jack Mackey continues to run well after sitting our the early season with an injury. He was followed by Andrew Ziegler and Bobby Ronacher. Austin Wharry, Robert Parent, Will Datilio, Desmond Holzman-Hansen and Daquein McNeil ran well for the Wildcats. KUA won the meet 27 - 30. The Wildcats return to action next Wed at a Lakes Region meet at Proctor.

The VA Cross Country team traveled to KUA for the second Lakes Region group meet of the season. Under perfect conditions many VA runners improved their performances. The team was led by Freshman Jon Scoby who finished thrid overall. Scoby is improving every race and was closing on the #2 spot when he crossed the finish line. Scott Poulton and Trey Davis ran strong races. Freshman Desmond Hubard was the #4 finishers for the Wildcats. Other VA finishers included Robert Parent, Bobby Ronacher, Andrew Ziegler, Austin Wharry, Will Datilio and Desmond Holzman-Hansen, and Daquein McNeil. The team returns to action next Wed as they host KUA and Dublin School.

The VA XC team compted against ten public schools at Bellows Falls High School yesterday. The team was led again by Freshman Jon Scoby. Scoby ran a season best 17:40 and finished 8th overall. Senor captain Andrew Ziegler ran a personal best and was the #2 Va finishers. Trey Davis,Bobby Roncaher and Cam Hubbard rounded out the top 5 for the Wildcats. Newcomer Jesse Paluka ran well in his first race of the season. The team returns to action at KUA next Wed for the second Lakes Region group meet of the seasn.

Freshman Jon Scoby led the VA XC team at the Northfield Mount Hermon Invitational on Saturday. Jon finished in 12th place with a time of 18.36. Jon was followed by senior Andrew Ziegler who had his strongest effort of the young season. Freshman Cam Hubbard continues to improve weekly and finished third for the Wildcats. Bobby Ronacher and Robert Parent rounded out the top 5 for VA. The team returns to action Next Friday Oct 6 at Bellows Falls High School.

The VA Cross Country traveled to Cardigan Mtn School for the first Lakes Region meet of the fall season. The boys were led by freshman Jon Scoby who finished in 4th place. Scoby stayed with the top pack through the half way mark. He was impressive in his VA debut. Scott Poulton followed with an impressive 14th place finish. Cam Hubbard and Will Datilio rounded out the VA top 4. Other finishers included Austin Wharry, Bobby Ronacher, Robert Parent and Daquein McNeil. The team returns to action on Saturday at the Northfield Mount Hermon Invitational.

The VA Cross Country team traveled to Dublin School for the first official race of the 2011 season. The boys were led by senior Scott Poulton who broke the 20 minute mark on a very challenging course. Poulton was followed by Freshman Cam Hubbard and Desmond Holzman-Hanson. Senior Captain Andrew Zeigler had a strong showing and finished #4 for VA. Other finishers included Robbie Roacher and Captain Robert Parent. The Wildcats will spend the rest of the week preparing for the opening meet of the Lakes Region season next Wed at Cardigan Mtn. School.

Cross Country Looks Forward to New Season

The 2011 Vermont Academy Cross Country team includes some new faces that should help the team as they prepare to compete for the Lakes Region Championship. Freshman John Scoby has had a strong pre season logging over 30 miles a week. He will be one of the top runners in the Lakes Region and will be a contender for All New England status at the NEPSAC Championships in November. Seniors Scott Poulton and Austin Wharry have come back in excellent shape and should contend for a top 5 spot on the team. Other newcomers that will add to the depth of the team are Bobby Ronachar, Will Datilio and Steve Tabor. A couple of Freshman that will help the team immediately are Cam Hubbard and Des Holzman-Hanson. The team will be led by captains Andrew Zeigler and Robert Parent. The girls team is led by Maddie Casey. She brings real enthusiasm to each practice. Maddie will be the sole girl on the VA team this fall. The team will be ready for their first Lakes Region group meet on Sept 28 at Cardigan Mtn School.
