Bio: |
Russell is a New England transplant from the Midwest. He hails from Michigan and was schooled in Indiana and Chicago. He bought a Subaru upon arriving and has adjusted seamlessly to life in Vermont. This is his second year at VA after teaching for three years at a small public school in southern Vermont. Russell teaches Pre-calculus and AP Calculus AB and is apprenticing to be the chair of the mathematics department. Last year he coached JV boys basketball in the winter and track and field in the spring. This year he will be assisting Thom Collins on the crew team. He also hopes to find time to continue working with a fledgling VA ultimate Frisbee club team. He and his wife Hannah share dorm parenting duties at the Buchanan House. In their free time, they enjoy taking their dog Dela Solita on long walks on the VA trails, firing up the barbecue, supporting our favorite football and basketball teams, and traveling. Last summer they led a month-long community service trip in a remote village in Fiji. Russell has also led summer trips to Australia, New Zealand, and Dominica. Above all, Russell enjoys getting to know the kids at VA, watching them grow and discover their talents, and challenging them to achieve.
