Mountain Biking

The Vermont Academy Mountain Bike Team competes in the Lakes Region Division. We focus on cross-country riding and also ride freeride and downhill. We have an ever-evolving mountain-bike park on campus as well as several miles of excellent single and double track. Our goals for the season are to be competitive at races and to improve the technical riding ability and endurance of our athletes.

VA Wheelmen travel to Gould

The Wildcat Wheelmen traveled to Bethel Maine for race number 5 of the season. The racecourse was located on Pine Hill and was filled with roots, rocks, and fun singletrack.
In the start of the B race Sipho Msipa took off as if fired from a cannon, and did not look back. 40 grueling minutes later he crossed the finish line victorious followed by Matt Houser in 5th, Chris Iamonaco 14th, Xav Bergunder 18th, Will Reidell 20th, Eddie Eisenberg 27th, and Dave Persha grinding it out on the single speed in 31st.

In the Girls B race Angel Shi rode very well and finished in 5th. Lara Young moved herself up to the B class this week for the added challenge and stiffer competition. Lara finished in 6th after her chain broke on the final lap and she ran the last mile with her bike.

In the Boys C division Nick Mische brought his riding to a new level, and won the race, followed by Brendan Hunt in 13th and Sam Guo in 18th. Brendan had to pick himself up after a big pile up on the start straight and passed ten riders in the tight singletrack to earn his result. Thanks to Coach Marks for his ever present support. This Wednesday we travel to Canaan, NH for the Cardigan race.
